on my PB the top row does have the days of the week and the date.  On my wife's 
IMac, she never uses iCal, but I just now looked at it and it too has the same 
display as my PB.  Since she never uses it, I would guess this display is the 
default.  Why yours doesn't show both is a mystery to me, but I'm sure someone 
can help.
