To answer your last question, yes I could plug in, but I want to find out why I 
could get onto the wireless in the house a month ago on this new pc, yet can't 
now...

Will try resetting the router first before jumping thru any more hoops....

Did you set your password on the router using a web browser?

On the Windows box did you access it using the Network control panel?

Have you used Google to search for the router docs?

Did you reset the router? Usually there's a small button you can press 
with the tip of a pen.

As to internet access, can't you plug directly into your modem to get 
access? I imagine all it would take is an ethernet cable.
