If you are referring to negative numbers, you need to highlight the affected
area of the spreadsheet, go to Format>Cells>Number and then either highlight
number, currrency, or accounting.  You can then set your preference as to
how negative numbers are handled.

If the problem is with all numbers, positive or negative, then you need to
change the font color.  You can get to the font color in several different
ways, including then font color button (a red "A" on my toolbar),
Format>Cells>Font, or if you use styles, Format>Style.
