Thanks, Neal, I had hoped I would lighten it up, too. At my age I am "washed with all waters," "mit allen Wassern gewaschen" as we in German would say. But when I read Harry's answer, being dead serious --- I simply could not believe it. And to think I devilishly enjoy my moronic state in so many things - ah, for growing older -- and wiser- yes, wiser, mind you , all the while learning to know less.

Let's lighten up. I though it was a joke too. And not only that, the statement made a good joke.

That's why I joined in. At my age, you have to start enjoying life a little.

I won't make the same mistake twice. Actually, I thought the question about excel was a joke....since all my stocks are in the red column, too. (I still think it was meant so, but I guess "Tom" is the only one who can answer that question) S (ps thanks, Marta)

Marta,

Enlarging the scope of someone's question with a similar question one
thing. Changing the topic altogether is another.

Sandra's question about corrupt appleworks files has nothing to do with
the original excel question.

If I am following the thread of the excel question I look to answers
about that question. If I pose a question about excel, because I'm
looking for an answer I need, and I open up a supposed answer and it
has nothing to do with my question, then that, imho, is improper
listserve etiquette.

I am sorry you feel you are a moron, I don't think anyone on the list
considers you a moron.

I did a google search on listserve etiquette and found several sites
that list appropriate etiquette.

Here's one:

<http://www.naahq.org/Pages/NAAListServeEtiquette.aspx>

Number 2 in the list is the following:

State concisely and clearly the specific topic of the comments in the
subject line.
This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and
makes it
easier for members to search the archives by subject.

If you would like, I am happy to send you url's for other listserve
etiquette rules.

Oh, Harry, why not posing another question when you don't know the
answer anyhow? What etiquette are we talking about? Would you mind
making a list and checking it twice and then send it to us etiquette
user morons. I did not know we should not add another question to one
just asked? I do it all the time. Every time somebody asks a question, I have similar ones and put them into the user-open-path--- to enlarge
the scope of the problem.
I hope I am not wrong, and if I am, so be it, I shall happily keep on
meddling my own way, etiquette or not.

Did ever anybody write a book on etiquette for user groups. If not,
well ----
Marta

Sandra,

While I appreciate your need for an answer to your question your
usergroup etiquette is lacking.

You posed your question in response to someone else's question.

When you want to ask a question you need to start a new email with a
new
subject.

Just so I'm clear, you say when you try to open ANY of your
Appleworks
documents you get the error message or just certain documents?

Can you create a new document, save it, and then open it?

Maybe fixing permissions will help and you might check to see if your
disk is in need of repair. Both can be done with disk utility.

What to do: when I try to open any of my appleworks documents, I get
"You can not open this document because it may be damaged or
incomplete". What on earth have I done, and can I fix it?
Help! These are appraisals I am working on, and must get
finished! Sandy

I'm looking at my stock spreadsheet. All the black numbers have

What formula do I use to turn the RED numbers back to BLACK?
