While I appreciate your need for an answer to your question your
usergroup etiquette is lacking.

You posed your question in response to someone else's question. 

When you want to ask a question you need to start a new email with a new
subject.

Just so  I'm clear, you say when you try to open ANY of your Appleworks
documents you get the error message or just certain documents?

Can you create a new document, save it, and then open it?

Maybe fixing permissions will help and you might check to see if your
disk is in need of repair. Both can be done with disk utility.
