No Jobs keynote at 2009 Macworld 12:12AM, Wednesday 17th December 2008 Apple has announced that its 2009 appearance at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco will be its last. It has also revealed that there will be no keynote address from Steve Jobs. 'Apple is reaching more people in more ways than ever before, so like many companies, trade shows have become a very minor part of how Apple reaches its customers,' said the company in a statement released to the press. 'The increasing popularity of Apple's Retail Stores, which more than 3.5 million people visit every week, and the Apple.com website enable Apple to directly reach more than a hundred million customers around the world in innovative new ways.'
The move follows similar withdrawals from shows in London and Paris over recent years as Apple's retail outlets grow in number and influence. The company also pointed out that it has been 'steadily scaling back on trade shows in recent years, including NAB, Macworld New York, Macworld Tokyo and Apple Expo in Paris.' The Expo takes place at Moscone West, and traditionally starts with Jobs announcement of the company's latest products in a much-anticipated keynote address. This year's address - seemingly the last - will instead be delivered by Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
