MacSleuths: I have a MacBook, about one-year old, running latest version of 10.4 and with Microsoft Office 2004 installed.
On this particular computer, if a PowerPoint presentation is opened and the "slide show" mode is activated, PowerPoint immediately quits with no error message (other then the one saying that PowerPoint has unexpectedly quit). In all other viewing modes, PowerPoint runs fine; it's just when going to the slide-show mode that it crashes. Here's what happens: the screen goes black just as it should to enter the full-screen slideshow; nothing happens for about five seconds and then PowerPoint crashes. Every time. I'm trying to figure out what could cause this. The same PowerPoint file opens and runs in slide-show mode on several other Macs in our office running the same version of OS and MS Office. In fact it runs fine on another MacBook that is of the same vintage and is almost identically configured. So far I have tried (all without success): 1. Trashing PowerPoint's preference file (plist file in user's library). 2. Reinstalling Office (complete with all upgrades to bring it up to date). 3. Restarting computer in Safe Mode (holding down shift key). 4. Repairing permissions. None of these has made any difference. Any ideas? Thanks.
