The new iphone is magnificent--I played with it for awhile at the Apple store over the weekend. It has the pep the previous version, which I have, sometimes lacks. You can use the iphone from an airport or other wifi spot. As for needing internet access for the apps--many run on the iphone itself, once they're downloaded, but I believe some do make use of the 3G network or internet for some of their operations. Does anyone know how long you have to have an iphone and AT&T account before getting the upgrade at the standard price? I think I've read the upgrade was available at the standard $200 or $300 price after a year, but I'm not sure--Ben Zion Hershberg

My cell phone bit the dust this week. So I'm thinking about getting a
iPhone. I want to pay any more subscription cost that I am now. So I guess the big question is "With the iPhone can one access the internet from a Airport or other wireless access point?" Do you need internet access to take
advantage of all the apps that are available?
