easy way is to have the user resave as a .doc file. This is a Office 2007 file format and even older versions of Office can not open it. We had the problem at work when they started to roll out the Office 2007 upgrade.
Here is a docx converter.

I just received a zip file , it is a docx file which my little iBook G4 can't open. it tells me it is not safe to open, and to use a different application. Textedit will open , but is a raw state with all this junk characters in between. KIt is important , since ik am not at home and the person who sent it is out of his office and and and. This is also still on Tiger. I bring it along when travelling. It is light.

Is there a way to get this thing open, since it is an important documant.
