David,

I want to jump in for clarification.

On the Airport advanced screen I get this:

<<inline: pastedGraphic.png>>

The string is much longer but I need to keep the size down.

On ethernet I get this:

<<inline: pastedGraphic.png>>

So, is the mac address the iPv6 number?

Thanks ever so much.

John

Go to system preferences and choose network. look at airport and you should see the "Airport ID" a string of digits that look like this- 00:4a:ff:3e:2b:f6 That's the MAC address, there is a different one for ethernet.

A friend setting up a wireless
connection needs to know the MAC address of his Mac. If one
goes to the About this Mac menu (under the Apple) and clicks
the "More Info..." button, the Hardware Overview shows a
"Hardware UUID" that is a long string of alphanumeric
characters with several dashes in it. Is that the same as
the MAC address?

If not, where would one find that information?

Thanks.

Dan
