Hi folks. Thanks to all who offered advice about Open Office. My
experience was NOT good (I'm being polite...). My daughter brought home a
file from a presentation that she started at school in Open Office on a PC.
I tried to open it in PowerPoint on a Mac (G5 iMac/10.4) - no luck - and
then downloaded Open Office. While the presentation of the application
looked familiar, nothing seemed to be easy. It looked like a warmed over
application from DOS, redone for Windows. The program would not import the
simplest of pictures in various formats, I had trouble surfing my files to
get other things to import, etc. Scrubbed the whole deal and retyped
everything in PowerPoint. I was up late Thursday!
My biggest frustration was in knowing how well so many other programs
work on the Mac. I mean, you want a presentation? I'll give you a
presentation! I have a Mac! Just don't handcuff me with the limited
abilities of this public domain software.
Not sure how well Neooffice works. I'll have to try that. But whatever
you do, forget Open Office on a Mac.
Greg
