It is Macified version of the old-school Emacs program. Plusses: There are plenty of packages out there for editing all types of files. It has smart abbreviations and context-senstive highlighting of keywords. It has been made to be very Mac-like for many of its tasks. It can be heavily customized if you understand the LISP programming language. Minuses: Some of the heavy-duty features use Emacs own odd keystrokes. Customization and such feels quite Unixy.
