Hi, name's Rich and I'm the web developer for a small marketing/design firm
in Maine. I have recently been given additional duties involving maintaining
our small Mac LAN, and I'm wondering if some kind person can help me out.
Here's the situation:
We've got cable service running into a WGS 6150/66. That machine is running
'SoftRouter Plus' from Vicomsoft, routing internet access to the entire
network.
Another machine on the network, a WGS 60, is running a program called
'MacDNS', and is providing IP numbers to all machines on the LAN.
What I want to know is this; can a Cable/DSL router, such as the MacSense
MIH-130 (<http://www.xsense.com/Product/mih130_b.html>), perform these
functions (routing & IP # serving) as well as being a firewall? My hunch is
that it can, but I'm just looking for some confirmation from those who know
more than I about this stuff.
Feel free to email me offlist.
Thanks.
Rich Davies
