Oh, I love this, getting back to someone Down East!  Anyway, for the
functions you list, yes, the MacSense or another box from Asante at:
http://www.asante.com/  can do the job.  Asante has a wonderfully
informative set of web pages and a downloadable manual so you can see how
easy this is.  If you want something with more flexibility than a hardware
router and perhaps more robust in software than your old SoftRouter, you
could check into IPNetRouter and related products at:
http://www.sustworks.com/  IPNetRouter is shareware, but you can use the
downloaded software for free for 30 days or so.  The most robust
configuration is to have the software reside on one Mac with two ethernet
ports.
