If you have the dual connector phonenet connectors (those are the more common ones, they have two phone jacks in the adaptor box), then you need to make sure you put a terminator in each box in the unused jack (unless your box is self terminating, or has a termination switch). Then, connect a phone cable between the two boxes. Plug each box into the printer port of the macs. Make sure Appletalk is set to use the Printer port (in Open Transport, use the AppleTalk control panel, in Classic Networking, use the Network control panel). Make sure AppleTalk is on (check the chooser is easiest, there is a radio button to turn it on or off). Go to the File Sharing control panel, turn file sharing on on either of the computers (or both, but at least one has to have it turned on). Go to the other computer, open the chooser, click the Appleshare icon, the 2nd computer should show up in the list. Double click it to access it. If none of this works... make sure you have a working 4 wire phone cable between the boxes (some cheaper phone cables are only 2 wire, only the center two... you need to have the outside 2 wires for Phonenet to work, so you will need a 4 wire phone cable... look into the phone cable plug to see how many wires are in it). -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> -- MacNetwork is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
