It depends on the size of the files they will be sending each other. 
If they're sending files that are a few MB or more (and will be doing
it often), you might be better off using a local mail server.  You
could give everyone an account on that as well as the one provided by
your hosting company, and have them use the host's server for general
correspondance and the local account for sending files to each other.

I would personally use the freeware Eudora Internet Mail Server.
