This is a very interesting point that I was not aware of when I made my purchase. I'd like to hear if anyone has had success with using AppleTalk on any wireless router other than Apple's.

Netgear wireless routers support AppleTalk over the wireless, as do Asante wireless routers. I believe MacSense routers do as well.
In the initial email from this thread, the problem could be solved by turning on Sharing over IP and selecting the IP address of the 8600. Not as convenient as AppleTalk but it will work.
