        Unfortunately Screen Sharing is probably going to be your only viable 
option this way. The latest wave of iMacs do have a way of being driven by an 
external source, but that source must be capable of driving DisplayPort devices 
(HDMI and DVI need not apply). But that does not help you with an old iMac.

        In theory there might be some creative soldering/surgery where you 
could solder a ribbon cable in place between the two computers to do this, but 
there is a good chance that they don't have matching internal connectors, and 
that this would be more trouble than it was worth (and a good chance you would 
fry both).

        You are probably better served giving up on the old computer, and 
buying a real monitor for the mini.
