        Having just hooked up 2 of the 27" iMacs (a Core i5 and a Core 2 Duo 
model) using a male-to-male MiniDisplayPort cable from Monoprice (so nothing 
special about it at all) I can confirm that this works with "normal" cables. 
However, since this is a DisplayPort only feature, I doubt you could use an 
adapters (other than DisplayPort to miniDisplayPort) to make this work, which 
may be the source of the "special" bit in the description.

        In some cases (like the one I just tested) you do have to hit 
Command-F2 to get one of the computers to switch into "display" mode, and the 
OS on the "display" must be running for this to work.
