I took the bottom plate of the machine off and looked: it's a real Apple 
Airport card. 
System Profiler has only the following 4 lines to say about it:

Airport Card Information:

  Wireless Card Type:              Airport
  Wireless Card Locale:            USA
  Wireless Card Firmware Version:  9.52
  Current Wireless Network:        wireless network unavailable

I'll try installing an Airport update to see if that changes things.
Beyond that, I don't have a clue as to why it only gives me WEP and LEAP as 
encryption options.
