This will do the same, no doubt. Apple's fine to electronically feature a small developer with a niche app that accidentally explodes into a 99 cent bestseller. They're less willing (and able) to feature that app in their retail space, nor is the developer able to box it necessarily. I guarantee this will be to most what the App Store is. Something very satisfying that secretly makes millions of people buy lots more software then they used to. I used to buy a few shareware apps a year. And annually or whenever it updated buy Office. And faithfully buy the OS and iLife upgrades as they came out (although I'd usually just buy a new Mac at the same time). Now, I can't tell you how many apps I buy. Even if 80% of them are $4 or less, I am sure I spend HUNDREDS more per year. And the only thing I've cut out is Office, since the slightly old version if iWork I have quite honestly works just fine.
