I just replaced my optical drive in my MBPro with an OWC Mercury Pro Extreme SSD.
My MBPro is just fine with it. Now, I'd like to install Snow Leopard on it and build it up from scratch (my existing 320 GB spindle drive is what I'm running from right now). As OWC doesn't have an enclosure at the moment, I figured I'd create a Snow Leopard image, stick it on a portable FW drive and go from there. When trying that route, the SL installer says I need to burn a disc first. Not having any double sided DVD discs, I opted for installing via Shared Optical Drive. Stuck the SL disc in my DUAL QUAD, turned on sharing for DVD/CD .. launched the remote install wizard .. put both machines on ethernet over my Time Capsule network, rebooted the MBPro with option key down and the SL disc was not an option. Third attempt: boot the DUAL QUAD in Target disk mode and install to MBPro from there. Nope - I can launch the DVD just fine, but get an alert saying "The application "Install Mac OS X" cannot be used from this volume". Given I can't build an optical enclosure tonight, what are my options? or am I missing something? thanks K _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list [email protected] http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
