Okay.  I vaguely recall that, in the past, I would go to Safari, turn OFF 
blocking cookies (which I always keep ON), and then going back to iTunes and 
try turning iTunes Match ON again (not sure why iTunes Match ever goes OFF, but 
it does).   I also RESET Safari data OFTEN throughout the day with ALL boxes 
checked ON.

I just enabled coolies in Safari and lo and behold, iTunes Match has accepted 
my credentials.

Now is that just coincidence? It's so odd.  But somehow, I feel there is a 
connection.  iTunes does use WebKit (AFAIK), so maybe it shares some data with 
Safari?

After writing the above, I did a little more sleuthing and found this:
