Right; that's why I asked. I knew it wasn't a limit in the filesystem, but
that the Mac OS certainly enforced it on HFS+ volumes.
I looked up those three Unicode files under Mac OS 9 on my Mac OS X volume,
and they were there, but had "#H" (some apparently hex string) between the
name and the extension, so it was like:
CJKUnifiedIdeographsExt#360E.pl
IdeographicDescriptionC#3630.pl
UnifiedCanadianAborigin#3651.pl
That is the installed stuff. The unpacked perl 5.6.1 stuff (unpacked under
Mac OS X :-) is:
CJKUnifiedIdeographsEx#15306.pl
IdeographicDescription#15323.pl
UnifiedCanadianAborigi#15347.pl
I wonder if that is some inode number or something?
