Hmm, I guess the source I used must have been a bit dated.
I copied the files config.guess and config.sub but I still had to copy /usr/bin/glibtool over the generated libtool in order to get a link.

It's easier than that. Just update config.guess and config.sub by copying them from /usr/share/libtool/.
Like I said though - make sure you have the latest source. You shouldn't need to update it at all.
