I recommend "Learning Perl" by O'Reilly. They have great editors
which makes them a good read and also they have a greater success
rate with examples than other books I've read.
They have a bunch of extra books to help you get along.
The best thing to do to get started with perl is to find something
that your excited about to work on. Because there are million ways
to do things in perl, you've really got to have something to do to
define your task.
