Just for your info, I have never seen the first problem, but the second problem sometimes happens to me too. It is an already known issue and filed as bug 489132 "Drag-n-drop file to MacPerl", first reported by Scott R. Godin. It only happens occasionally, and I can't repeat it, so it is hard to track down.
