Think it was a technical limitation, with some things not working
outside ${x11prefix}...
Well then it's a bug in the build system or something because it
should work fine wherever you install it (and if it doesn't, that's a
bug)
Something like how .app bundles don't work fully outside an /
Applications location or so.
Uhm... .app bundles should work outside /Applications
