How do you but? I guess you use elilo.

When you use elilo, the EFI firmware won't enable the BIOS emulation
that is needed by the fglrx driver.

You have to use a DOS bootblock and boot with grub or lilo, the EFI
firmware will enable the BIOS emulation in this case. To do this, you
need to create a DOS style partition table. This is best done with
rEFIt and its MBR sync function.
