I've tried the aticonfig command, as well as about a dozen configs
I've found while googling. The very first config I tried was the
output of `aticonfig --initial` on the original xorg.conf that comes
with Slackware 11. I've also copied my WORKING xorg.conf file from the
Slackware 10.2 install, and I still get the same exact output.

I have yet to find any reports of the ATI drivers working with the
combination of xorg6.9, kernel 2.6.20, and this particular vid card
(x1600). It looks like my last remaining option is to try upgrading to
xorg7.1, but this is no small feat considering there are no
prepackaged copies of 7.1 for Slackware.
