To add to the confusion:
On my MBPC2D 17" with X1600 I have Debian Testing running with Kernel
2.6.20, Ortwin's patches, ATI Driver 8.34.8 (kernel module patch:
http://www.phoronix.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1033 ) and Xorg 7.1 .

OpenGL and XVid Acceleration work perfectly, external screens work,
suspend-to-ram works perfectly and stable.

(Only my touchpad is behaving worse. E.g. always detecting a palm on it.
And this damn iSight never worked with any of the patches)

Fascinating how more or less the same platform and drivers can behave so
differently.

PS: Why are the important parts of the Mactel-Wiki locked? I've sent a
mail to Gimli but didn't get a response yet. Updating this wiki would
probably help a lot. I don't feel like I should edit the Gentoo Wiki
(which is an absolutely fantastic source of information).
