Hi,

I tried rEFIt with grub and lilo and it didn't work because the xserve firmware
does not support BIOS compat.

Then I tried rEFIt launching elilo, after all, elilo is another efi appl. that
can be launched from rEFIt.
Then I tried elilo alone.
In both cases, it looked like the kernel was launched but it didn't boot. I
suspect there is some incompatibility between framebuffer and the luck of BIOS
support but I am not sure.

I tried all combination without success. I think elilo with a kernel that
supports Apple EFI firmware should work but I couldn't get it working.

Thanks for you reply

I'm a bit confused... so you're trying to launch elilo from rEFIT,
right? From what I've gathered Elilo is an EFI bootloader, just like
rEFIT. You can boot Linux with Elilo without ever even touching rEFIT. I
don't know if you can boot MacOS X from within Elilo, probably not. You
can also make rEFIT launch another (MBR/BIOS) bootloader, like Lilo or
Grub. This is what I do. If BIOS emulation is not available, using Elilo
is the only choice, unless rEFIT can be made to boot Linux directly. I
haven't heard of anyone booting Linux directly from rEFIT. I guess you'd
have to dump rEFIT (and OS X) and just install elilo and use that to
boot you Xserve.
