Well I am a fairly new Mac user but I have done a little experimenting
with this ticking sound thing and this is what happens on my Macbook.
When I download a file I have to interact with the download list to
get the progress. If I interact a second time I am interacting with
the group and that is when I hear the ticking sound. In other words,
I hit the interact keys twice while focused on the download list to
hear the ticking. Hope this helps at least a little.
