Hello Bret and all: I do not know if this has been answered already so if it has please excuse the post. The ticking sound is near and dear to my heart (smile). I really dig that sound even if it is not a top priority (smile).
If your ticking sound has disappeared and you cannot get it back and you have had no luck with checking or unchecking the mute sounds checkbox go to the verbosity section of voiceover utility. Select the Announcements tab and then VO right arrow over to the "speak when status text changes checkbox. Uncheck that box if it is checked and your ticking sound ought to return (hopefully ... grin). Just tried it over here and it still works. I lost my ticking sound and had to go a hunting (grin). As for your second question, one thing I have found is that if you perform a VO keys I (which brings up the item user menu), you can find the progress bar and the percentages that way. It does not offer a single keystroke though it does key one from having to look all over the place. Hopefully that helps some. Happy ticking (grin).
