You can try the following: if you've created a copied file in iTunes  
with "Create AAC Version" and have that track highlighted in iTunes  
use the "Command-R" shortcut that shows the location of the file in  
Finder to bring up a Finder window with your selected track  
highlighted.  Then, from that Finder window, copy the track with  
Command-C and paste it to the Desktop.  You should even be able to  
press the shortcut for navigating to the Desktop, "Command-Shift-D",  
just after you copy with Command-C, and then paste with Command-V.  If  
you have difficulty pasting, switch to icon view with Command-1 and  
try your paste again.
