I would recommend against disabling this mail box at this time. Apple only retrieves messages from the All mail box when using GMAIL and then associates them with a more specific label/folder. There is an option in the GMAIL settings to limit the number of messages to allow in any folder and that might improve GMAIL performance. I created a smart folder called "Old list items" that finds all messages in my list folder that are unread and older then 15 days. I then select all / delete. This is a little less intuitive on the Mac then on IOS devices where there is either an ARCHIVE or TRASH button and if you hold down on the button (double tab with hold for VO users) then you can trash in a mailbox that defaults to ARCHIVE.
