I've said it before and I'll say it again. I never shut down my MacBook unless I take it somewhere. I don't see the reason to. I don't know if this is the same thing with newer Mac models, but I heard from a trusted computer technician that turning off and on a computer damages a hard drive after a time. I keep my Mac on all day and night and it doesn't bother anything or suck up power.
