When you get the Airport Express home, Launch Airport Utility and you'll see it in the list of additional devices. I have a Time Capsule, so it detects my network automatically and extends it. I don't know if this works with a 3rd party router though. At any rate, it is a simple procedure to make the necessary entries inside Airport Utility to have the Express extend your wifi.
