The huge, giant, Bible sized problem is, that eSpeak is not supportive of voiceover. Sure you could probably run it fine in terminal, but Then you could only read text files with it, and possibly convert them to sound files. Its really bad when some one can get a closed-source synth like Eloquence to work but not a freely open source engine like eSpeak.
