Yes, she was fine. She's now a thriving, precocious six-year-old.

Funny you mention the lake. The same niece about whom I last wrote also had the misfortune of dropping another iPhone into the Pacific Ocean. To be fair, there wasn't much she could have done about it. She had her phone out and was trying to take a picture when her two-year-old daughter decided to climb up on the side of the sailboat they were in. So yeah, where dogs and babies are involved, it definitely seems prudent to be on the safe side (though once your phone's in the ocean I suppose it doesn't matter what case you have) :)

Your point about the edge of the screen is an interesting one. I hadn't thought about it, but I think that's a big part of why I resist getting a case, I actually do like that the phone extends all the way to the edge of the screen, so I feel like having a case would wreck the aesthetic.

Donna

I know my own frailities Donna and handling a phone is one. Also, working a guide dog, you just never know what could happen. that said, I want a good phone case that will protect it should I drop it, anywhere. Otterbox and some of the Life Proof cases seem to be the best options there.

A friend has a Golden Retriever who is a field trial champion. She has a great picture of him retrieving her phone from a muddy lake. He’s holding it as he comes out of the reeds with the Life Proof case showing proudly. the phone was fine.

I also find that I have a hard time working with a phone outside of a case. I don’t like the screen to extend all the way to the edges and I know that’s what Apple and other phone makers think people want.

It will be frustrating to see if they use the space taken up by the 3.5 mm headphone jack as new screen realestate. That’s where I put my thumb to hold the darn thing after all.

Oh, Janine, that is so awful it's funny! My niece was trying to fly home during hurricane Sandy. Needless to say her flight was canceled. It was one of those days when anything that could go wrong did, and finally, very upset and frustrated, she went to use the airport restroom. And, you guessed it, she dropped her iPhone in the toilet. It was the crowning blow to a truly awful day. Happily I guess, I've been lucky, but I've never had any such experiences. (Although now, having posted several messages to that effect, I'm starting to get very nervous that I'm tempting fate.) lol

The only, and I do mean only, downside to the Otterbox Defender case is that with the case on, it may be difficult if not impossible to plug it into some docks to recharge. Yes, the little door flaps can, and eventually do, come off but that defeats some of the protection.

I have dropped mine on marble floors, into water and yes, when having a bad stomach virus during a business trip, thrown up on it and the phone was fine. I did consider burning the case but hey, a good soak and it came clean. Not sure Otterbox wants that ringing endorsement but vomit is very bad for phones, trust me.

You will love! the Otterbox Defender case. I have my 6S in one, and I absolutely swear by it! It even makes feeling the margins of each 4 corners of the screen much easier. Plus the case is rock solid. I've had no issue at all with it, and the comfort of knowing my phone is protected is absolutely wonderful!

I did. I actually did that on purpose, because I've been thinking about purchasing an OtterBox case for my phone.

Indeed it seems you got the OtterBox case, because that one is $13, which you said is what you spent. The regular one is only $9. You must have chosen the wrong option when you checked out. It’s nice to know they are so responsive.

Hi all,

Since I shared my negative opinions on SpeedDots yesterday, I also wanted to write and share some positive follow-up.

As I wrote earlier, I wrote to SpeedDots yesterday. I did not ask for a refund, but shared my disappointment with the product, and specifically the lack of instruction for how to properly place it on the phone. I received a response from them within four hours, which to my thinking is pretty impressive, especially since it was a Saturday. Their response stated that on their website it states that this protector will not work without the OtterBox case on the phone. I had not seen anything that said that when I was at the site, and I had also had an email exchange with them before purchasing that did not indicate that that was the case, but I assume the information is there somewhere. At any rate, they offered me a choice, either a refund or a replacement with the correct protector for phones that don't have the OtterBox Case. I chose the latter, as I figure I ought to give it a fair try under the conditions that they say will work.

Though I could have done without yesterday's frustrations, I couldn't have asked for a more prompt or customer-oriented response. I still don't know where I'm going to end re these tactile covers, but the people at SpeedDots get high marks from me for the way they've handled my situation.
Cheers,
Donna
