Adding extra RAM is easy (my wife did it for me) and my 2009 MacBook does run High Sierra - but voiceover is now so sluggish that it might have been wiser not to have upgraded the OS. So, I agree that the latest and greatest is not necessarily the best choice!

hi,

While I do much prefer having the latest MacOS with all the features and such, I caution people from telling others not to do things to make their working Mac even better.  Sometimes there are financial reasons, sometimes it's just because it works and there's no need to have some of these newer features.

I have a couple hundred iMacs at work that won't go above El Capitan.  They work fine and I can't justify the cost of replacing them all with the latest iMac models.  I do have some newer souped up iMacs with Fusion drives and lots of RAM for video editing and such, but for basic student work, these older iMacs do the job quite well.

Instead of making a judgement call regarding someone else's situation, I'd rather just say how performance could be improved, express the limitations of the older hardware, and let them be the judge of what's worth the cost to them.

I apologize if this sounds critical.  That's not my intent.

While you could probably upgrade the memory, it may not be worth it. The 2009 macs will not be able to run any more new versions of Mac OS so it's probably not worth putting any more money in to them.

Hello I have a late 2009 macbook.

it currently has 2 gig ram but the max it would take is 4 gig

if I were to upgrade the ram will I notice a huge improvement?

also where do you go to get the ram changed on the computer?
