There is no “best” way to deal with this issue. That said, using the Uber app is always the better option. Messaging the driver is hit or miss because many drivers never look for messages, and some put the minimum effort into customer service or just don’t get it. I’ve had drivers tell me it wasn’t their job to look for me, and refuse to do so. I have been told it was my responsibility to find them. When this happens, I always report the incident to Uber, which often results in a lot of back-and-forth communications via email or messaging, trying to explain the situation to a representative who is many time-zones away in some far away location. It can be very frustrating.
