In iOS, you cannot download apps from third-party sites, you have no choice but
to use the App store. As a result, every app is vetted by Apple before
submission. The other result is that if someone wants you to run they're
program, they have to submit the app directly to Apple. The Mac however is a
different animal. We can use Safari to download directly and the system is not
directly sandboxed. Take Zoom. To use it on the iPhone, App store, no other
way though it might work through Safari. However, there is no Zoom app on the
Mac App store. There are some things that will work with Zoom, but if you want
the actual program the company provides, you have to go to there website. It’s
a safe app to download, but I don’t know if you restrict your downloads if that
one would work for instance. My point though is that if you only download apps
from people you know, then you don’t have to worry about security measures that
may or may not hamper your Mac experience.
