Sorry Tim, Word for Mac works terrible. Reading a simple text might work but in the moment a document is more suffisticated or very long Word doesn’t work very well.
In my opinion Outlook is the only app which works quite well using VoiceOver.

Hi,

I think that you might be running on old information about Microsoft Word. It is very accessible on the Mac now. But, if you do want to move docs back-and-forth between word, and an app, Pages is very accessible, and can import and export to Microsoft Word easily.

Here’s another question for the group:

One of the main reasons I’m considering abandoning MacOS for Windows is that I have to send and receive MS Word docs, often with track changes and comments. I primarily work in Scrivener and export to Word, but I can’t give up word entirely because I need to be able to check the formatting of the exported docx, and process tracked changes and comments on files I’m receiving. Does anyone know of a way to bring a .docx with track changes and comments into a more accessible program than Word on the Mac? Like maybe Apple Pages? Trying to think of a way that I don’t have to switch to Windows, though I’m sort of resigned to that fate considering everything I know about MS Word for MacOS...

Thanks and high fives all around,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I’m sorry to hear you are getting blind. Ask as much as you want here in this list. A lot of great experts share their knowledge. You could also have a look on applevis.com. Very rich.

Press CMD + Option + v instead of just CMD + v to move an element in the Finder.

Scrivener for Mac is also a great tool which is quite accessible to VoiceOver. Unfortunately Word isn’t as accessible as it could be. In this point I’m very disappointed from Microsoft. They could really do better.

All the best
Jürgen

Hey all,

I'm a lifelong sighted Mac user currently in the process of becoming a blind Mac user. I've also decided to learn JAWS (even though I would've never dream of switching to Windows otherwise) since I can't avoid MS Word in my work and I've been gobsmacked by how frequently Word for Mac stops working compared to Scrivener, which is my main workhorse word processor. (also finding some of the JAWS navigation, especially on the web, more reliable and intuitive than VoiceOver for MacOS).

Anyway none of this has anything to do with my question for you, which is as follows:

is there any way to move items in the finder without just copying, deleting, then pasting in the new location? I know in Windows you can "cut" a file and then "paste" it elsewhere, removing this middle step of having to then go back and delete the file... I have half-heartedly tried reading the apple documentation about dragging and dropping with VoiceOver but I haven't had the courage to try. is it more efficient than copy file, paste file, delete file in the finder?

thanks, and thanks for including me in this group!
Andrew Leland
