Hello everyone, First of all, I just want to say thank you for the help, and support. It is much appreciated. I will definitely check out the tutorials, and learn as much as I possibly can.
Also, I am going into this with an open mind, and I do understand and realize that there will still be accessibility issues and such. But I do appreciate this being pointed out as well. I realize I have a lot to learn, and I am looking forward to it. I did want to ask one other thing. I have external hard drives that I use with my windows laptop, now. Can I connect these to my new Mac? If so, how might they work? Thank you again for the thoughts, and suggestions. We don’t have c: and d: and so on. The path separator is a / instead of a \ which you may be used to in Windows. Mac is a Unix style OS so it’s a tree structure and all that you need to know to get started is that you will have your own home folder where you keep everything. Regarding the screen reader, the biggest change which I till date never liked and would never like is the fact that to press buttons or activate stuff like checkbox you will have to use 2 key combination instead of just one enter like with Jaws on Windows or Orca on Linux. Just like there is a Jaws key or in Orca there is also one key which generally is caps lock on a Laptop, there is a VO key which you can change to caps lock. So to press a button you will do a caps lock + enter. Fortunately in web forms and for all buttons labled as “default “ in Mac OS you can just use enter. You will easily get to grips with web page navigation because it is very much similar in case of headings buttons etc. And yes there is no forms mode VS navigation mode in Mac so watch out for those things. It is a pretty accessible OS and in some things even more accessible than Windows but there are many issues as well so it is not like a dream come true accessibility which a lot of people assume . In fact there are tuns of concerns but just like any other OS we get used to it. Regards. I have very little experience using a Mac. I had an older one that was given to me at one time. But, I never spent much time trying to learn how to use it, because I knew it couldn’t be upgraded. So I think I was hesitant to give it a chance. Anyway, I have been a windows user, and Jaws user for years. However, I am looking forward to making this transition. Can anyone give me some suggestions on ways to help me adjust to using a Mac? As well as some possible resources to get me started? Any help, or suggestions would be much appreciated. I mainly plan to use my Mac for working on my college assignments, and papers, enjoying audio, emailing, web browsing, watching TV shows and movies, and maybe a few other things.
