No, Socialism produced drab buildings full of engineers trying to copy Apples. I have a very good friend who moved here from Bulgaria and while he was in the military and then as part of his assigned job he disassembled American consumer electronics, especially computers and reverse engineered them. They had their own versions.:)
He's an absolutely brilliant engineer and systems architect now. He told me he moved here because he was tired of the Americans coming up with all of his ideas a few months ahead of him because of our better facilities and infrastructure.
