Hi Karen, Speech rate can be adjusted with vo-cmd-arrow keys, left and right until you reach rate and up and down to adjust. As for drawbacks with quicknav or locking the VO cursor, quicknav generally won't impact anything else, though you'll want to be careful in the event you ever do actually want to move the physical cursor around with arrow keys. Locking the VO keys will impact a lot more, and I don't personally recommend it. I have an MBP and just get used to hitting VO-z with my left hand. Best, Zack.
