Hello Mary, VueScan does indeed do OCR, and in English, it does it really quite well. For your husband, VueScan is probably the way to go.
For blind users, the problem with VueScan is that it only does OCR when the page is correctly aligned, whereas ABBYY FineReader takes care of orientation properly. The reason I like to use FineReader for OCR is that it handles other languages better than VueScan, and can OCR three languages in the same document. I hope this explains things better.
