looking through my technet stuff, you can use the mini display port adaptor to VGA on your thunderbolt interface. it's the same connector, just enhanced data support as thunderbolt isn't just for displays, it's data as well, so it can be used for large data storage systems, pro audio when the format is supported, etc.
