I know I had a DLink DIR-628 router that would drop the connection about
every 10 minutes for no apparent reason. Then about a minute later it
would come back. I eventually gave up on it and bought an Apple Airport
Extreme. Haven't had issues since.

Hi John,
I have a Netgear Router. I'll contact Apple again and see what they say. I
can reproduce VO not talking every time I start up the Mac until I bring focus
to the Finder. Thanks for the assist.

What type of router are you using? I used to have this kind of issue
when I was using a D Link router with my Mac.
As for the second issue, I have seen this behavior on my Mac Book Pro
during some boot ups. I'm wondering if there is a preference file that needs
to be replaced or something of that nature. I haven't had the time to really
dig and experiment though.

I'm in the process of setting up our iMac. I still run our PC and it is
connected to our router. With the Mac, I often need to re-start our system in
order to get on the Internet. It works for a while, and then I cannot connect
to a page when launching Safari. An Apple rep told me to go into Java
Preferences and check the applets and update my Java software which I did, but
the problem persists. Also, when I start the Mac, VO doesn't start talking
until I Command Tab to the Finder. Any suggestions on how to resolve these two
issues? I'm running the latest version of Lion, and all system software was
updated when I initially started our iMac. Thanks for any assistance.
